Building bridges is golden. In my teaching experience I encountered an incident that taught me a lesson. It was during exam time that a candidate appeared after 40mins from the start of the paper. According University policy, a student who comes 30mins after the paper has started they shouldn't be allowed to seat it. Poor man didn't know which room his paper was being done. Confused he went to the examinations coordinator for inquiry only to be ruthlessly reminded of the examination policy. As I was walking in the compound I saw the guy socked in mad with ibishokoro all over his dirty clothes, he looked weird. I approached and asked him what his problem was. He narrated to me his issues. I realised he is an old man, older than me, and surely his coming late for the ex must have had a genuine reason. Luck was on his side. I was invigilating the very exam he had come to do. I let him in but on condition that once 5pm clocked, he would get out with others. Deal, deal.
Fast forward, I am driving at a break neck speed to Ntungamo because I had to beat time for a certain function since I had items that were supposed to be used. Just towards Rwentobo traffic police stops me... These ones dint have a speed gun. Guess who the traffic officer was... Our guess isthe same. He greeted me sir, good afternoon, so it's you, yes please. Please move on but reduce on the speed. The curiosity in me set in.. I was to later find out that the reason he had been late for the exam was because his boss refused to give him permission. So while at the check point as time clocked, he requested his friends to stand-in for him. The fella borrowed clothes from a home that was near their usual check point because he couldn't move to the University in police uniform. However, upon reaching Kabalaga his colleague alerted him that the boss was on the next check point in Nyakijumba. Upon reaching Kyanamira the man jumped out of the taxi and walked through the bushes and gardens up to Kabale University only to reach when he was late by 40mins...
